Silicone molds and epoxy resin are a perfect match. Because silicone is flexible, a silicone mold allows you to peel it back away from the resin cast and it will pop right back into shape, meaning you can use it over and over again. All epoxy is expensive so this is no different. Preferably, I would pay less for the art resin, I think it’s a little pricey for the quantity that you receive. To make one coaster, you will need about 3 oz of resin. Wear gloves to protect your hands, and pour equal amounts of resin and hardener into a mixing cup. Use a stirring stick and mix the resin well for 2 minutes. While you can certainly use a handsaw to make your wood coasters, a power miter saw makes this project much, much easier. To begin, cut off the end so that you’re starting from a perfectly flat surface. Next, set your miter saw to cut your first coaster round, approximately 1/2–3/4” thick.
